Gladys Hancock Shumway Scholarship is founded by Mt. Comfort Alumni Association for Gladys to honor her dedication to education. This fund provides educational support to a graduating Mt. Vernon High School student

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age/Grade Level:
    Applicants must be graduating students from Mt. Vernon High School
  • Financial Need:
    Required
  • Other Academic Requirements:
    Applicants must be in the top 25% of the class academically
  • Residence:
    Applicants must be current residents of Buck Creek or Vernon Township in Hancock County, Indiana
  • Citizenship:
    Applicants must be current U.S. citizens
  • School:
    Have attended Mt. Vernon High School for at least six semesters prior to graduation
  • College:
    Plan to attend an accredited college or university in the state of Indiana

Application Details

  • Judging Criteria:
    In order of importance, recipients will be chosen based on financial need, personal traits and accomplishments, and pursuit of a degree in Education (only a consideration not a requirement)

  • Recommendation Letters:
    Two letters of recommendation
  • Other Materials:
    Paragraph outlining your need for this scholarship and your life goals;Completed College Costs Estimator form;All applicants must submit one high-quality, color head shot (shoulders and up). A professional senior photo is preferred. HCCF reserves the right to request additional photos if the submitted photo is not acceptable. *Please note, if you are selected as a scholarship recipient this photo will be used in HCCF publications
