Ken Yamase Sportsmanship Scholarship Fund

To honor Ken Yamase's legacy of fair play, integrity, respect, and sportsmanship, the Ken Yamase Sportsmanship Scholarship Fund was started. This scholarship aims to benefit undergraduate students attending an accredited, two or four-year, not-for-profit institution within the US who demonstrated financial need. Applicants must be a resident of the State of Hawaii.

    Undergraduate student; Senior athlete at Waiakea High School who participated in BIIF (Big Island Interscholastic Federation) sport(s).
  • Minimum GPA:
    2.70
  • Financial Need:
    Required
  • Other Academic Requirements:
    Attend as a full time student
  • Residence:
    Resident of the state of Hawaii
  • School:
    A senior athlete at Waiakea High School who participated in BIIF (Big Island Interscholastic Federation) sport(s). If there are no applicants who meet the criteria, then the applicant may be a senior athlete from any other public high school except for charter schools, that is part of the BIIF
  • College:
    Attend an accredited, two or four-year, not-for-profit institution within the US (including US territories)
  • Extracurricular:
    Senior athlete at Waiakea High School or senior athlete from any other public high school except for charter schools, that is part of the BIIF
  • Organization:
    A senior athlete at Waiakea High School who participated in BIIF (Big Island Interscholastic Federation) sport(s).

  • Essay:
    All applicants are required to submit a 900-word Personal Statement, which includes your educational, career, and personal goals. You should also include other information that will demonstrate that you are a worthy scholarship recipient. Your personal statement should describe any outstanding attributes and talents.Your Personal Statement is not limited to answering the following questions, but they must be addressed:What are your reasons for attending college?Why did you choose your course of study?What career goals do you have?There is now a required short essay on our common application. Applicants must answer the following question in a one-page (max. 600 words) statement: How do you plan to give back to Hawai'I?
