American Legion - Tennessee

The American Legion Eagle Scout of The Year is awarded to a Tennessee High School who is a registered, active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, or Venturing Crew. The awardee will $3,000 scholarship. The applicant may also be a be the son, grandson or great-grandson of a Legionnaire or Auxiliary member in good standing.

    The applicant must have reached his 15th birthday and a high school student.

  • School:
    The applicant must be enrolled in a Tennessee High School (public, private, church or home school) at the time of selection.
  • Military:
    The applicant must be the son, grandson or great-grandson of a Legionnaire or Auxiliary member in good standing.
  • Organization:
    The nominee must be a registered, active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, or Venturing Crew Chartered to an American Legion Post, Auxiliary Unit or Sons of The American Legion Squadron and be an active member of his religious institution.
  • Miscellaneous:
    The applicant must have received the Eagle Scout Award.
  • Other Benefits:
    The awardee will also compete for $10,000 at the American Legion National scholastic scholarships.

  • Essay:
    On one additional page (8 1/2 x 11 inches) describe your career interest and/or goals. The selection committee realizes that in many cases, applicants will not have decided on career goals, however, complete this section to the best of your ability.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    One letter each from your religious institution, school, you community and Scouting must be included. Two additional letters of recommendation and testimony may also be included, Please keep in mind that the letters are an important part of this application and will be carefully reviewed bu the screening committee.
  • Portfolio/Work Samples:
    Two additional pages (8 1/2 x 11 inches) succinctly describe your Eagle Scout Project.
