Women of Color Scholars Program

General Board of Higher Education & Ministry

This scholarship was established in 1988 to give financial, intellectual, and personal support to United Methodist women of color in theological and religious education. The lack of women of color faculty at United Methodist seminaries and theological schools was discussed and resulted in a recommendation that the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry develop strategies to address this imbalance. To be eligible applicants must be females born of African, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American parent (at least one parent). Students must be pursuing a PhD or ThD within the field of religious studies who desires to serve on the faculty or in an executive administrative position at a UM-related Theological School.
