Scholarships for Computer Programming Majors

Computer programming majors are all about the nitty-gritty details of computing, from debugging and coding to software design and prototype testing. Qualified programmers may be in high demand, but they still have to cover the cost of their degree before starting a career. If you’re a computer programming major looking for a way to pay for college, a scholarship might be able to help. Several of the available scholarships are funded by professional companies and nonprofits, such as the ExCel Computing Scholars Program, the Blacks at Microsoft Scholarships, the Codeup Women in Programming Scholarships and the Google Code Jam Competition Awards. Many others are provided by individual universities, such as Georgetown University, Northeastern University, Iowa Western Community College and Seminole Community College. Applying students will usually need to meet a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate financial need or obtain letters of recommendation.
