Scholarships for Geoscience Majors

Geoscience is a broad category that includes the disciplines of geology, geophysics, oceanography, planetary science, meteorology, environmental science and soil science, among others. So it's fitting that there are a variety of scholarships available to geoscience majors. Among them are scholarships offered by government agencies, professional groups, business organizations and individual schools. These scholarships are often merit based; although, financial need, ethnic background or gender also may be considered. Applicants should be prepared to submit a personal statement, official transcripts and letters of recommendation. This award was named after Suzanne Takken, an avid traveler and strong supporter of women in geoscience. Suzanne spent a long career in Oklahoma as a petroleum and consulting geologist. The award aims to support women geoscience students to present their research at a national or international professional geoscience meeting other than the Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America. Eligible applicants are female students who are currently enrolled in a BA, BS, Masters, or PhD program or the equivalent majoring in geoscience or a closely related discipline.
