Sponsored by the National Hydropower Association, this scholarship is created to encourage students to consider becoming part of the U.S. hydropower industry. It is available to current college sophomores or juniors who will be juniors or seniors beginning in the fall; or graduate students; with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent), who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university. The scholarship is also open to students with an equivalent GPA at an accredited vocational-technical school or programogram. Applicants must also be pursuing a program of study that is related to the hydropower industry: Engineering, sciences (biology, fisheries, and hydrology), communications, or environmental studies.

The Mel Marcus Fund for Physical Geography was established to carry on the tradition of excellence and humanity in field work espoused by Dr. Melvin G. Marcus. Grants from this fund will promote formative participation by students collaborating with faculty in field-based physical geography research in challenging outdoor environments. This fund is open to faculty applicants to support travel and logistical costs of including students in field research in physical geography. The award is intended to support the inclusion of one or more students in field-based research. The faculty member must join the student for a significant portion of the field work.
