Chapter 1 Detroit Undergraduate Scholarship

Chapter 1 Detroit Undergraduate Scholarship is an annual offer of SME Education Foundation for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in advanced manufacturing. This scholarship prefers SME Student Chapter or SME-Detroit Chapter One - The Founding Chapter member of good standing and those candidates involved in SME Student Chapter activities at their respective institution.

    Applicant must be a full or part-time student.
  • Residence:
    Scholarships are only available to students with permanent residency status in the U.S. (i.e. green card) or Canada, or applicants with a U.S. or Canadian student visa (or citizens of the U.S. and territories, citizens of Canada)
  • Citizenship:
    Scholarships are only available to citizens of the U.S. and territories, citizens of Canada, (or students with permanent residency status in the U.S. (i.e. green card) or Canada, or applicants with a U.S. or Canadian student visa.)
  • College:
    Applicant must be student enrolled at one of the following sponsored institutions: Wayne State University, Student Chapter S004, Lawrence Technological University, Student Chapter S011, University of Detroit-Mercy, Student Chapter S081, Focus: Hope, Center for Advanced Technologies, Student Chapter S279, Henry Ford Community College, Student Chapter S331, Macomb Community College, Student Chapter S071, University of Michigan - Dearborn, Student Chapter S326
  • Major/Career:
    Student applicants must be enrolled in a manufacturing engineering, manufacturing engineering technology or closely related degree.
  • Organization:
    Preference will be given to a member in good standing of their respective SME Student Chapter or SME-Detroit Chapter One - The Founding Chapter.
  • Miscellaneous:
    Preference will be given to applicants involved in SME Student Chapter activities at their respective institution.

    Applicants must write a student statement that includes details about why they chose your major, education and career objectives, and how this scholarship will help achieve their objectives.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    During the application process you will be asked to provide the names and e-mail addresses of two people to provide letters of recommendation. They will receive an email providing them with instructions on how to log into our system and upload their recommendation letters. At least one of the letters must be from your current school faculty. Letters from friends and relatives are not permitted.
