Edith Zike Memorial Nursing or Pre-Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of Edith, who is a dedicated nurse. The scholarship aims to support and encourage individuals to pursue a nursing profession. The program provides a $2,000 scholarship that will be divided evenly between two semesters.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age/Grade Level:
    Applicants must be a high school graduate or college student.
  • Financial Need:
    Preferred
  • Residence:
    The applicants must be current residents of the Hancock Regional Hospital Primary Service area (or employed in a health care capacity in Hancock County). Residence will be verified by a zip code.
  • Major/Career:
    Applicants must be a high school graduate accepted into a nursing, or pre-nursing program nursing students with partially completed programs or Registered Nurses pursuing a Bachelors degree or other advanced degree.

  • Judging Criteria:
    Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic achievement, community or extracurricular involvement and demonstration of interest and/or experience in nursing activities. Financial Need may be considered.

  • Essay:
    Applicant mus write a personal letter of introduction that highlights your academic achievements, community and/or extracurricular activities and your interest and/or experience in nursing activities.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Letter of recommendation from an academic professional in your nursing program or a high school science teacher.
  • Other Materials:
    Applicant must submit a list of completed Math and Science classes and the letter grade earned and letter of acceptance from the nursing program he/she will be attending, if applicants are not currently attending a nursing or pre-nursing program. Applicant must submit a Completed College Costs Estimator form. All applicants must submit one high-quality, color headshot (shoulders and up). A professional senior photo is preferred. HCCF reserves the right to request additional photos if the submitted photo is not acceptable.
