Kirkland Hall Community Foundation Scholar Award

Oklahoma City Community Foundation

This program is established by the Board of Trustees of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in appreciation of Mr. Halls service as Board Chairman and Trustee. The endowment fund supports Trustee Scholarship Initiative program which is awarded to under-served segment of college-bound students those who do not qualify for the most competitive academic scholarships but who are good students and who are active in school activities and in their communities.

  • Essay:
    Describe your career goals and how your education will help you achieve your goals. What school do you want to attend, and why is this school a good fit for you? (Please limit to 500 words.); Write an essay in which you share information about yourself and your goals: (a) Who and how did someone inspire you to continue your education? (b) Describe a defining moment in your life, and if it was a negative experience, how did you turn it around? (c) Describe a high school classroom activity or assignment that was challenging and gave you a feeling of mastery when completed. (d) Write about an adult you have met through an extracurricular activity who prompted you to consider a career or profession like theirs. Please include reference to your academic/career goals, as well as your extracurricular involvements if applicable. (500 word maximum.)
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Please submit the name and email address of someone--teacher/professor, guidance counselor, principal, community leader, or employer--who can submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. The person you request a letter from should be able to speak to your abilities and capacity in the areas of education, leadership and community service.
