This scholarship was established to benefit a child or grandchild of a Veteran who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in the American Legion. Applicants must be pursuing a career in the medical field at a Texas Education Institution.

    Plan to attend a Texas Education Institution, studying in the field of medicine.
  • Military:
    Be the child, grandchild, or great grandchild of a veteran, or a veteran in their own right, who served in the Armed Forces during the following eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion.August 2, 1990 to the date of cessation of hostilities (Persian Gulf)December 20, 1989 through January 31, 1990 (Panama)August 24, 1982 through July 31, 1984 (Grenada/Lebanon)February 28, 1961 through May 7, 1975 (Vietnam)June 25, 1950 through January 31, 1955 (Korea)December 7, 1941 through December 31, 1946 (WWII)April 6, 1917 through November 11, 1918 (WWI)

  • Judging Criteria:
    Award selection will be based on need, goal, character, citizenship and objective.

  • Essay:
    A letter not more than 500 words from applicant stating qualifications and intentions.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Three (3) letters of recommendations:a. Clergyman of applicants choice.b. Two (2) from representatives citizens certifying to the applicants character.(Examples: acquaintances, present or previous employer or educator)
  • Other Materials:
    A completed application form;Copy of DD214 of veteran(s) referenced on application.
