Created by Dr. George H. Hitchings and Dr. Joyce Shaver Hitchings in 1990 to honor and reward individuals with a commitment to helping others in the area of drug and alcohol addiction.

    Be enrolled or planning to enroll in graduate school
  • Financial Need:
    Not Required
  • Residence:
    Applicants must reside in Durham, Orange, Wake, or Chatham Counties
  • College:
    Accredited by the appropriate Regional Association for Colleges and Schools
  • Miscellaneous:
    The student need not be pursuing a degree in addictive disorders, but must show a demonstrated commitment to working with others in that field during or before graduate studies, preferably as a volunteer. Awards will be made without regard to race, creed, color, sex, age, or national origin.
