The George Geng-On Lee Minorities in Leadership Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship given to students from Bay Area. The scholarship is provided to support minority high school graduating students and college students in pursuing their post-secondary education.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age/Grade Level:
    The applicant must be a high school senior or college student.
  • Financial Need:
    Required
  • Other Academic Requirements:
    The applicant must be enrolling as a full-time student.
  • Residence:
    The applicants must be a Bay Area resident. Bay Area residence is defined as having lived in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area for the two years (24 months) preceding the application deadline. The Bay Area's nine counties are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma.
  • College:
    The applicant must be a student who will be enrolled full-time at an accredited, not-for-profit four-year institution in the upcoming Fall term.

  • Essay:
    In 1,000 words or less, explain why you should be selected as a recipient of our George Geng On Lee Minorities in Leadership Scholarship. Draw upon your academic, professional, volunteer and personal experiences to demonstrate how you have overcome the challenges of being a minority. Describe how you exemplify a minority in a leadership role. In addition, please state how achieving your career goals and future aspirations will contribute to your growth as a leader in your community.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Minimum of 1 letter from a teacher, professor, principal, supervisor, volunteer director or equivalent, in a sealed envelope with their signature placed across the seal. This letter should address the applicants ability to set realistic goals and how he/she has achieved them; how the applicant has demonstrated academic or community leadership; an example demonstrating the applicants will power, personal strength, and drive; and any other relevant information
  • Other Materials:
    The application must include an introduction Letter to Scholarship Committee summarizing qualifications and a Financial Aid Award Documentation.
