Y.C. Yang Civil Engineering Scholarship

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

This scholarship was established in 2004 by Y. C. Yang, Chairman of T. Y. Lin & Y.C. Yang International. The purpose of this scholarship is to foster interest in structural engineering and to encourage students to further their civil engineering education. This scholarship benefits currently enrolled civil engineering students at an institution with an ABETaccredited program and students who are members of ASCE.

    Any currently enrolled undergraduate civil engineering student and has an interest in structural engineering.
  • Organization:
    An ASCE Society Student Member in good standing at the time of application and award
  • Miscellaneous:
    Scholarships may be awarded only to those students who will employ them to continue their formal undergraduate education at a recognized educational institution.

Application Details

  • Judging Criteria:
    Award selection is base on an appraisal of applicants justification, stated interest in structural engineering, education plans, academic performance, a potential for development, demonstrated leadership qualities, financial need.

  • Essay:
    - Personal statement (500 to 1,000 words) addressing why the award should be given to the applicant, interest in structural engineering, and plans for continuing formal education.- Brief financial statement outlining how the applicant will finance his/her education if an award is granted.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Minimum of two sealed letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a faculty member. Each letter sealed in its own envelope with the recommenders signature across the flap.
  • Other Materials:
    - Completed application form, including faculty members original signature, name and contact information.
