Scholarships for Literature Majors

Do you love books and want a career, such as librarian or literature professor, that allows you to be around your literary heroes? Then you might consider pursuing a degree in literature. If so, you can apply for many scholarships that are available to students like you. Many such awards are granted by colleges and universities offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in literature. Some of these scholarships require candidates to submit an essay on a literary topic. Community foundations, writers' organizations and nonprofit organizations are other sources of scholarships for literature majors. These, too, are often in the form of essay competitions with specific words lengths and prompts. Other scholarships might require writing samples as well as a personal essay. The eligibility for privately funded scholarships varies and might include a minimum GPA (typically 3.0 or higher), financial need, letters of recommendation and academic achievement. The list below has more information about the scholarships you can apply for as a literature major.
