This scholarship was established in 1990 by the Cole Foundation. The Cole Foundation was established in 1965 as a private foundation with gifts from Elizabeth S. Cole and Robert L. Cole in memory of their parents, William B. and Elizabeth Little Cole, and their sister, Catherine Cole. After Elizabeth Cole and Robert Cole's death, the majority of their estates were left to The Cole Foundation. The Cole Undergraduate Scholarship Program was intended to increase the number of high school graduates from Richmond County, North Carolina who pursue post-secondary education. This opportunity is open to seniors scheduled to graduate in the spring of the current school year.
