Nancy O. Swanson (Mrs. Robert) started this award in 2006 . Mrs. Swanson and her husband saw the need to provide financial support to students pursuing study in the fields of horticulture, conservation, botany, environmental science and landscape design relating to the arid landscape. The award can be in the form of either an internship or funding for a research related topic for advanced undergraduate and graduate students studying in these fields.
