Between the constant activity of Blacksburg and the quaint charm of Christiansburg, there’s plenty to love about Montgomery County, Virginia. Here’s one more: if you live in Montgomery, that alone could make you eligible for one or more college scholarships. A number of the available scholarships are funded by the Community Foundation of the New River Valley, which awarded nearly $300,000 in scholarships in 2013 alone. Others are available through nearby colleges such as Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Hollins University, Central Virginia Community College, Bluefield College and Southwest Virginia Community College. To apply to any of these scholarships, students may be required to submit official transcripts, send copies of their Student Aid Report (SAR), obtain letters of recommendation or write an essay.
