Native American Journalists Association

This scholarship program was established to benefit graduating high school seniors, college or graduate students pursuing a career in media. Students must be current NAJA members to be eligible. Students must be of a Native American descent and must be in good academic standing.

  • Recommendation Letters:
    At least one letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your professional or academic work, such as teachers, editors, producers, professors, academic advisors, etc.
  • Portfolio/Work Samples:
    Work samples, portfolio (magazines or newspaper clips, tapes, etc.), or other examples of your work such as class essays.
  • Other Materials:
    A completed scholarship application;Cover letter including bio, area of interest (print, broadcast, photojournalism, new media, or journalism education), reason(s) for pursuing a career in media and anticipated graduation date (for example, Fall 2017);Link to current photo and permission;Link to current photo and permission to use in NAJA media release announcing scholarship recipients;A copy of your FAFSA report;Proof of enrollment in a federally or state recognized tribe. If not formally enrolled, please provide a letter from a tribal official on tribal letterhead stating the applicant's status or relationship with the federally recognized or state recognized tribe;Scholarship financial profile information;Linkable folder containing all required documents (please ensure there is open access).
