Scholarships for California Residents

From the mountains to the sea, there are a lot of perks that come with living in California. And if you're a resident of the Golden State who is attending college, add another one to the list: myriad scholarship opportunities. A number of these available scholarships are funded by the state of California through the California Student Aid Commission. Many more scholarships are provided by local community foundations up and down the state, such as the San Diego Community Foundation, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the San Francisco Foundation and the Humboldt Area Foundation. Applying students will usually need to meet a minimum grade point average and submit official transcripts, and may also be required to write a short essay or demonstrate community involvement. This scholarship was established by David L. Shearer on December 2, 2008 to benefit women seeking education to re-enter the workforce. This scholarship was created to acknowledge Cheryl Shearer's dedication to education. Cheryl realized the importance of education and was very supportive and encouraging to all re-entry students. This opportunity is open to females who recently (within the past two years) returned to higher education after a gap of at least two years and have graduated from a Ventura County high school, GED recipients or attended but did not complete college in Ventura County. Applicants must be planning to pursue and undergraduate degree or certificate program at an accredited community college or four-year college or university.
