Scholarships for California Residents

From the mountains to the sea, there are a lot of perks that come with living in California. And if you're a resident of the Golden State who is attending college, add another one to the list: myriad scholarship opportunities. A number of these available scholarships are funded by the state of California through the California Student Aid Commission. Many more scholarships are provided by local community foundations up and down the state, such as the San Diego Community Foundation, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the San Francisco Foundation and the Humboldt Area Foundation. Applying students will usually need to meet a minimum grade point average and submit official transcripts, and may also be required to write a short essay or demonstrate community involvement. The Roy A. Gustafson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by James C. Basile in memory of Roy A. Gustafson a former Ventura County District Attorney and a judge to the Ventura County Superior Court by appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan. In 1969, he became an Associate Justice, California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division 1 and remained there until his retirement in 1971.
