Scholarships for Communications Majors

Communications is a broad major that can lead to jobs in journalism, marketing or public relations. The diversity of this field of study also is reflected in the assortment of scholarships available to communications majors. These scholarships are often funded by professional associations, such as the National Press Club, and local community foundations. Some scholarships may be reserved for women or members of minority groups. To be eligible, applicants may have to meet a minimum GPA requirement, as well as submit an essay, portfolio of work and letters of recommendation. In some cases, financial need is considered. This scholarship was established in 1990 by the Cole Foundation. The Cole Foundation was established in 1965 as a private foundation with gifts from Elizabeth S. Cole and Robert L. Cole in memory of their parents, William B. and Elizabeth Little Cole, and their sister, Catherine Cole. After Elizabeth Cole and Robert Cole's death, the majority of their estates were left to The Cole Foundation. The Cole Undergraduate Scholarship Program was intended to increase the number of high school graduates from Richmond County, North Carolina who pursue post-secondary education. This opportunity is open to seniors scheduled to graduate in the spring of the current school year.
